A little info for all as there have been a lot of questions concerning this new Commercial and Recreational Crab closure for Louisiana Blue Crabs!
In July of this year Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission approved a proposal that would shut down crab fishing for 90 days over the next three years. The closure would start the third Monday of February and last for thirty days for 2017, 2018 and 2019. The closure for 2017 dates are February 20th through March 22nd. Also restricted would be harvest of immature female crabs throughout the year, immature females have triangular aprons on their bellies, whereas mature female crabs have dome-shaped aprons.
The positive is Crawfish season will be in full swing. Hopefully fresh Crawfish Tails will start being picked and will be an alternative.
But for today plenty of Crabmeat to be has as well as beautiful Soft shell Crabs.
Soft Shells will be ending soon. Get your run in while you can!
